Sometimes it’s good to sit back and realize that everyone communicates differently, some are more direct, some indirect. Hello Everyone! Happy New Year!

Take 2013 to be the year you advance your career. You can either advance internally, or externally if you find there is nowhere to go in terms of growth where you are. Start with trying to move internally first, apply to jobs in other departments to show interest, speak to HR about potential roles coming up, you have to put yourself out there. Make sure you have an updated resume. Try a visual resume just for fun. You have to spend time everyday doing something to help your career move forward. Schedule time in your calendar if you find it’s tough to carve out time during the day.

You can take self-training on-line if your company doesn’t offer paid training, or check with your local Collage or University to see what they offer.

You may even meet some interesting people who can help you with your new career.

Chances are you are really slow at work today ….


Having good posture at Work is Important

If you are reading this at work today, chances are it’s pretty slow. Take a few minutes and see if your set up at your desk is ergonomically correct. Yes, you can do this yourself. Make sure your arms are at a 90 degree angle – adjust your chair height to make sure – this is the first step. Try to spread your mouse pad away from your keyboard to make sure you aren’t cramped. Order a headset! and ask if they have an Ergonomic keyboard while you are at it. You should be looking straight ahead at your screen, if you are looking up or down ask IT if they can help you adjust the monitor. Take a 30 seconds to stretch every 30 minutes you sit down. Schedule your self a stretching break in your online calendar.

AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities) is training for customer service reps, and others that interact with your customers on how to provide service a person with a disability. 1 our of 7 people in Ontario are living with a Disability and with the population ageing, this number is only going to increase.

The best way to interact with a person with a disability is to ask them – How Can I Help You?

That will get you off to a great start. Don’t consider the person “disabled”. They are a Person First – a person with a disability.
